Cor Jesu Academy Announces National Merit Semifinalists
Cor Jesu Academy is pleased to announce the following five seniors have been named National Merit Semifinalists: Sarah Blackwell, Ellen Bredenkoetter, Haley Kloess, Breanne McCarthy and Julie Schnur.
The National Merit Scholarship has announced the names of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in this year's National Merit Scholarship Program. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, which represents less than one percent of the U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. These high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for 8,400 National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $35 million that will be offered next spring.
Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. To become a finalist, a Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the high school principal, and earn SAT scores that confirms the student’s earlier performance on the 2010 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). The Semifinalist and a high school official must submit a detailed scholarship application, which includes the student’s self-descriptive essay and information about the Semifinalist’s participation and leadership in school and community activities.
