The City of Shrewsbury is accepting applications for an

Recreation Assistant

 

 

 

Position Summary:

Responsible for all facility rentals/reservations and all park/pavilion reservations.  Duties also include the development and creation of department-wide marketing efforts.  Duties include developing, implementing, and evaluating programs and activities, registering participants, and collecting fees, and assisting the director in other departmental functions.

 

Responsibilities:

Provide all renters and potential renters with facility and park information.  Coordinates and maintains all correspondence with renters and potential renters.  Collects and disperses all monies from these renters.  Ensures that all renters are aware and comply with all policies and procedures.  Develops (3) 16 – 18 page brochures annually including layout design, graphics and writing.  Coordinates printing of the brochure and ensures the timely delivery of the brochure.  Writes press releases and distributes these to various newspapers, radio stations and web sites.  Composes all newspaper inserts and ensures timely distribution.  Develops, updates and generates mailing of the annual sponsorship program to all Shrewsbury businesses for participation in city-sponsored programs and events.  Creates, develops and implements program and event ideas and requests.  Rectrac software coordinator.  Daily supervision of activities which includes the following:  answers phones, responds to questions and provides information, resolves discrepancies, issues equipment, provides technical assistance to the public and community organizations, and enforces regulations and rules to prevent disruptions.  Helps out planning and implementing with special events.  For more information on the job description, please visit the homepage of the city’s website at www.cityofshrewsbury.com.

 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

Knowledge of principles and practices of general marketing, public relations and promotional techniques.  Must have excellent customer service skills. Demonstrated ability with math and basic accounting processes. Thorough knowledge of Microsoft office software; including Access, Publisher, and Excel.  Knowledge of Recware Software is beneficial.  General knowledge of office equipment i.e. copiers, postage machine, fax, and phones required. 

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation or other related fields plus one year of related work experience, or other equivalent combination of education and experience.
