Back to School: Affton Principals Share Hopes for Near Year

At the Affton Board of Education meeting Tuesday evening, Patch caught a moment with the four Affton principals to ask what their hopes were for new school year. Here's what they had to say:

“My hope is very high student achievement, that each child maximizes his or her potential.” — Susan Jackson, principal of

“My hope is to continue to foster the family and community involvement at Mesnier because I really think that’s important at that level. We had a great turnout last night for the open house and I want to build on that.” — Christine Powers, new principal of

“We are hoping for another fantastic school year with student achievement and building relationships between students and with the faculty.” — Brian Smith, principal of

“Student achievement is such an important piece, seeing that students reach their potential and that they feel safe and secure here at school.” — Jeff Remelius, principal of

Patch also asked the principals what their fears going into the new year were, and all four agreed that student safety was their biggest concern. Affton High had an especially painful time last year with two student deaths.
