The JB Blast Fourth of July celebration has been postponed, possibly until October.

Like cities around the St. Louis region, the Lemay Fire Protection District will not issue a permit for fireworks due to the hot, dry weather conditions. That means the JB Blast won't be able to have fireworks.

Extremely dry ground cover, lack of rain, low humidty and high temperatures all contributed to Lemay Fire Protection District's decision, said acting duty officer Norm Glover.

St. Louis County Councilman Steve Stenger said the event might be postponed until as late as October when "weather will be better."

The fire district's decision came in after Patch ran a story saying the fireworks were still on.

I'm sad about this. What should I do instead? I wonder if this will change by next week?

I don't get the "Just Kidding" part...makes it sound like the fireworks are on.

Because we'd just written that the fireworks being ON! They are no longer on! But you are right, Brian, that could be confusing. How about: JB Blast Postponed, Fireworks Permit Denied??

This is stupid. No one is canceling the Fair St. Louis FIreworks.... what's up? Can't Dooley and the County Council afford the fireworks this year? Maybe they decided to "Appropriate" the money for something else.... Thanks for ruining my Kids' July 4th!

Hi Suzanne! My understanding is that the whole JB Blast event - including music - is postponed. Thanks!

Before you go bashing, you should learn the facts. The JB Blast is paid for by private individuals/companies and Councilman Stenger. It is also sponsored by the County Parks and Police. Sorry your kids Independence Day is ruined. A lot more could be ruined if a fire was started by fireworks.

If Lemay Fire is concerned enough about the dry conditions, wouldn't you think Mehlville Fire Protection District would have been equally concerned and canceled the nursing home's big display on Tesson Ferry Road (highway 21)? Just asking.

I think that with all the money problems going on,the money could be better spent on something other then fireworks.
