Man Faces Burglary Charge After Surprising Shrewsbury Man, Police Say

Shrewsbury police reported the resident did not answer his doorbell, and the man broke into the house.

Eric Otis, 38, of the 4600 block of McPherson Avenue in St. Louis, was charged Monday with first-degree burglary after surprising a Shrewsbury resident in his kitchen.

Shrewsbury Police reported that the homeowner heard his doorbell ring several times at about 11:30 a.m. April 15 at his residence in the 7800 block of Grove Avenue in Shrewsbury. The resident did not answer the door.

He then heard a car with a loud muffler pull out of his driveway, but it returned a few moments later. When the homeowner went to investigate, he found a man standing in his kitchen. The man fled.

Bond for Otis was set at $25,000.
