The biggest issue facing Shrewsbury today is dwindling sales tax and possible major budget cuts if we cannot shore up our sales tax base.
I have been on the Board and have been through many budget sessions and know that barring cutting our Fire Department, Police Department, and our Parks and Recreation there is very little trimming to be done to our budget to offset the lack of income.
Kenrick Plaza has gained a lot of attention over the last three years that we have been negotiating this redevelopment. The City, the Mayor, and the Board have done everything possible to make this a successful venture for the City.
For or against, we are all residents of the same City and we want to see Shrewsbury’s past, present, and future carry the legacy of being a community to call home. With that in mind, we have to secure the City’s financial future the best that we can. That is our job as City officials. Having a viable development in Kenrick Plaza will take a huge step in that direction.
Although I am running unopposed, I still feel there is more work for me to accomplish to help see the City through these rocky financial times. I welcome the privilege to again serve our community as an alderman.
