ACIA APPEALS TO COUNCILMAN ON BEHALF OF DISABLED

Letter to Councilman Steve Stenger - County Councilman -District 6

Dear Councilman Stenger:

The members of the Affton Community Involvement Association (ACIA) are aware that the apartment building at 8009 Gravois Rd. is slated to be torn down and that tenants have been given notice to vacate and, in fact, many have already done so. While we are cognizant that this deteriorating building has had some occupants who have been of a problematic nature for Third District Police officers, it has come to our attention that some of the remaining tenants are classified as disabled.  Therefore, we are writing to appeal to you to prevent those few disabled individuals from being evicted to the streets and added to the rolls of the growing homeless population in unincorporated St. Louis County. We have confirmed that St. Louis County does have some homelessness prevention grant funds that could potentially be utilized for this purpose. If these funds can be brought to bear to help successfully relocate these few disabled persons, they will retain their dignity, the building owner can proceed with demolition, and he can then move to incorporate the parcel into his rumored expansion plans.  Thank you for giving your attention to this matter related to social ills within our community. We await your reply.

Respectfully yours,

Larry Stone, President
Affton Community Involvement Association
