The Power of Positive Collective Community Activism

Working Together!

The ACIA wants to thank those who banded together to quickly resolve the illegal placement of a Flea Market at the northwest corner of Heege and Mackenzie Roads. Special thanks goes to Eric Fey, Administrative Assistant to 5th District County Councilman Pat Dolan. Eric heard the pleas for help from the Affton Chamber of Commerce, the Affton Community Involvement Association and numerous Affton residents to stop that abomination in its tracks. Thanks also to our Neighborhood Preservation Inspector and Officer Weber of the S/W County Police District for citing the property owner. We also extend our appreciation to Doug Miner, Editor of the Affton-Shrewsbury Patch for going to the scene, taking photos and further validating our contention that merchandise was still being unloaded there even after the owner had been cited.  Whether you live near this location or elsewhere in Affton, many of you exhibited community pride and took the time to express your frustration on Patch about this matter.  All of thee factors clearly demonstrate what the power of "responsible" collective community activism can do. And, it is that manner of positive collective community activism that is at the very foundation of our ability to create a positive future for Affton going forward.
