The welcomes its newest addition, Firefighter Paramedic Tim Hughes.

Tim began his career with the district on August 1, after the approval of Chief Officers and the Board of Directors at a special meeting on July 11. He has been in the fire service since 2006 and brings with him several years of experience on one of St. Louis City FD's busiest ambulances and multiple certifications, including HAZMAT Technician.

"I first met the guys at Affton while doing an internship for my Paramedic Degree and Certification," Tim said. "They were such patient instructors and knowledgeable paramedics that I spent as much time as I could with them. Their ambulance was the busiest around and I learned so much riding with them, and now I'm very proud to be working with them every day."

Tim will be put through the district's orientation program and will be spending most of his first several weeks taking classes on the Affton Fire Protection District's Operating Guidelines and Medical Protocols. Once he finishes his orientation period he will be placed on probation for 2 years where he will be required to successfully complete a multitude of certification courses and training evolutions.

"I've always loved the emphasis the Affton Fire District puts on training. They put a lot of effort into the courses they offer," Tim said. "They also spend a lot of time interacting with the public and clearly have a great relationship with their residents. I love how they stop and talk to people at Schnucks or the hardware store and know the checkers names. It's just a great atmosphere to work in!"
