Affton Fire Protection District Open House

The Affton Fire District opened its doors to the public yesterday for an Open House. With kids everywhere firefighters gave tours and showed off their emergency equipment.

You couldn’t have asked for better weather yesterday for the Affton Fire Protection District’s Open House!

District Fire Chief Jim Fritz said he was very pleased with the large community turnout. The District barbecued and handed out over 200 hot dogs, chips and drinks thanks to Kenrick’s Meats and Catering.

Firefighters gave tours of the engine house and the emergency equipment while representatives from Woodard offered information about disaster relief programs and board-up/restoration. The new ambulances were a big hit; the running joke from residents being that they hope to never have to see them again! – ha-ha.

Also very popular with the crowd was the St. Louis County Police TAC Vehicle, “The Bear,” which was on hand at the event thanks to County Police. Officer Reddick showed equipment and answered questions even as one child - I won’t mention any names - managed to get himself handcuffed!

The District would like to thank everyone who came out yesterday and encourage them or anyone else to stop by for a tour any time. Due to the great turnout District organizers are now considering making the event an annual thing.
