Affton Firefighter/Paramedic Dominates at Guns 'N Hoses

The Affton Fire Protection District was proud to be represented by Lieutenant Kristen Troup at the annual Guns 'N Hoses charity boxing tournament.

On Nov. 23 area firefighters and police officers squared off in the boxing ring for the annual Guns 'N Hoses charity tournament. Proceeds go to the Backstoppers, an organization that helps the families off fallen firefighters, EMS responders and police officers. The Affton Fire Protection District was proud to be represented by Lieutenant Kristen Troup.

Lt. Troup fought in the 5th bout and won in a unanimous decision after 3 rounds. Troup said she had been training at 21st Century Martial Arts in Pacific since the beginning of August. "While the training was intense the opportunity to be a part of this night is something I can't even put into words!" Troup said. "I am so honored to have been a part of it."

A large group of Affton firefighters went to cheer her and their other comrades on. "Several off-duty St. Louis County Police Officers were in the stands by us which led to some fun rivalry and teasing," explains Firefighter Dan Bertino. The firefighters have a good working relationship with the officers and many friendships outside of work as well.
