Pink Shirts for Affton Firefighters

Affton Firefighters and Paramedics wear pink duty shirts to help raise awareness for women affected by cancer.

October, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, is just around the corner and the Affton Firefighters are pulling out the pink again this year. Once again firefighters and paramedics of the Affton Fire Protection District ordered hundreds of pink tee shirts to wear on duty to raise awareness and support for women affected by all types of cancer.

Over 790,000 new cases of cancer in women are estimated to be diagnosed in 2012 alone according to information from cancer.org (American Cancer Society). By wearing pink shirts, the firefighters hope to bring attention to the needs of women facing cancer and inspire people to get involved.

“Far too many of our women are finding out they have cancer each year and we are proud to be a small part of the movement to get people thinking about it,” says Captain Steve Davila, “and we love that more and more agencies and fire districts are wearing pink each year!”

* The Affton Firefighters would like to request that if you see someone wearing any pink in support of women affected by cancer this month, give them a smile or a wave as a gesture of support. Let's work together to raise awareness of the disease and support for our women!
