Calling Open Mic Night Performers and Guests: Support the Greater St. Louis Association of Black Journalists' Benefit Feb. 27

(St. Louis, Mo.) – Got talent? Looking for a fun night out on the town? Love supporting good causes that benefit youth?

 

  Then come out to show off your chops or simply enjoy the Greater St. Louis Association of Black Journalists’ kick-off social event of the year – an Open Mic Night.

   FOX2's Kim Hudson will emcee the event, which includes an opportunity to relax with professional journalists from the area while enjoying live music from featured artist SHE, an all-female funk/neo-soul band from Chicago, various performances from others brave enough to approach the microphone, as well as a silent auction, food and specialty drinks.

  The Open Mic Night is from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb 27 at BB’s Jazz, Blues and Soups, located at 700 S. Broadway in St. Louis. Street parking is available near the venue and parking attendants will also be on hand.

 

  Adults 21 and over may purchase tickets for $10 in advance at gslabj.eventbrite.com and $15 at the door. No personal checks will be accepted at the door. For more information, contact GSLABJ@gmail.com.

 

  Proceeds will fund GSLABJ’s annual Minority Journalism Workshop for high school students – the longest running minority journalism workshop in the country. This year’s workshop is five Saturdays, Sept. 13 to Oct. 11.

 

  The workshop gives aspiring minority journalists an incredible opportunity to train with professionals and includes meals, lectures, media labs and a tour of the University of Missouri-Columbia – one of the best journalism schools in the nation. It also provides college scholarships to top workshop graduates.

 

  “The workshop is entirely funded by member and community donations and has served as a career-launching pad for aspiring minority journalists for more than 35 years,” said Aja Williams, GSLABJ president.

 

  “If you are looking for a unique night out on the town, want to nurture the next generation of aspiring minority journalists and help ensure positive coverage of minority communities at the same time, you should make plans to attend our Open Mic Night.”
