Older Americans Month - Safe Today Healthy Tomorrow

Older adults have made countless contributions and sacrifices to ensure a better life for future generations. Since 1963, communities across the country have shown their gratitude by celebrating Older Americans Month each May. This celebration recognizes older Americans for their contributions and demonstrates our nation’s commitment to helping them stay healthy and active.

While Mid-East Area Agency on Aging provides services, support, and resources to older adults and their caregivers year-round, Older Americans Month offers an opportunity for us to provide specialized information and services around helping older adults take control of their safety and live longer, healthier lives.

Please join Mid-East Area Agency on Aging (MEAAA) and the Missouri Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) for a Scamboree Fraud Education and Prevention Fair on Thursday, May 15, from 4:30 – 7:30PM at the St. Peters Senior Center, located at 108 McMenamy Road, 63376.

Experts in fraud prevention will educate Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers about healthcare fraud and abuse, as well as other scams that target older adults. Educating older adults and their caregivers on how to protect personal information, detect fraudulent activities, and report them is the key to reducing this problem and saving billions of dollars of taxpayers’ money. Speakers include Officer Melissa Doss of the St. Peters Police Department, Joshua Jones of the Missouri Attorney General’s Office, Rona McNally of the Missouri SMP, and Art Maines, Author of “Scammed: 3 Steps to Help Your Elder Parents & Yourself.” Free document shredding will be available from 4:30 – 6:30pm and refreshments will be available while supplies last.
