Lutheran South Partners with Church to Grow Much-Needed Vegetables for Food Pantry

The Affton Christian Food Pantry wants to provide fresh food for its clients.

The Affton Christian Food Pantry is trying to provide its clients with more fresh food.

With the Plant an Extra Row program, the pantry is asking area gardeners to plant extra to donate to the food pantry on a regular basis.

“We want to provide fresh produce for our clients,” Jennifer Meehan, director of the Affton Christian Food Pantry is quoted in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “We receive donations from stores, but not a lot of it is fresh.”

Lutheran Church of Webster Gardens has partnered with Lutheran High School South for the past three years. Last year the church gave 75 percent of its harvest to Affton Christian Food Pantry.
