"Lemonade for Lonnie" Stand to Support Lonnie Avent's Family Is Friday

Parents are sponsoring the benefit for the Sappington Elementary third-grader who died following a car accident on May 9.

Parents at Sappington Elementary School are sponsoring a lemonade stand Friday, May 17, to benefit the family of third-grader Lonnie Avent, who died following a car accident on May 9, according to a release from the Lindbergh School District.

Lemonade will be sold all day starting at 10 a.m. in the Sappington Elementary School parking lot, 11011 Gravois Rd. The proceeds will assist the family in paying for funeral arrangements.

There is no set price for drinks, but donations will be accepted, according to the release.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Lonnie’s family during this extremely difficult time,” Sappington Principal Craig Hamby said in the release. “I am proud of our Sappington community for coming together and supporting them when they need it most.”

In a letter to parents last week, Mr. Hamby said Lonnie's passion for life and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all of his friends, teachers and classmates at Sappington.
