Cheerful Cookie Fundraiser Brightens Gloomy Day

Concord Trinity United Methodist Church hosts a cookie walk fundraiser with more than 8,000 cookies.

Church parishioners and visitors alike were in for a delightfully tasty morning in spite of the rain on Saturday at the second annual cookie walk fundraiser at .

The fundraiser featured a whopping 700 dozen cookies, baked by volunteers, who were each responsible for donating 10 dozen.

"We try to focus on specialty cookie varieties that you wouldn't find elsewhere," said Cindy Taylor, youth assistant at the church. "We also have exclusive designs from celebrity chef Mary Sheets [of Dierberg's] and even homemade dog biscuits."

Taylor said the proceeds support both the youth ministry and the adult volunteers in mission.

"The cookie walk is a great event because it is multi-generational. Both the youth group and the adults are here today, working together," Taylor said.

Each cookie walk visitor was accompanied by a youth group member as a personal shopper, who led visitors to all 12 tables, where they were allowed to choose their cookies. Once chosen, the cookies were boxed, weighed and paid for.

Among the cookies were timeless varieties like gingerbread men, intricately decorated sugar cookies, red and green pinwheels, peanut butter kisses, and many more. There were also several selections of fudge.

Volunteer Carmela Ryan, who helped keep the cookie displays looking nice all morning, thoroughly enjoyed herself at the event.

"This is my first ever cookie walk. It's so awesome," Ryan said. "I won't have to make any cookies now—and other people bake better than I do!"

Also available was a gift-wrapping station, where church members Deborah Allinson and Ashley Kirk cheerfully prepared presents to be put under the tree. Allinson commented that the donated gift-wrapping materials were a great accompaniment to the festive cookie displays, but several customers mentioned they hadn't started their shopping yet.

The Church reported Tuesday that they had raised almost $2,000.
