Seussical Hits the Shrewsbury Community Theater Stage Soon

The musical opens July 18, and runs thru July 21. Will you be supporting the production and going to see the musical?

Dr. Seuss will be coming to life on the stage starting July 18 in Shrewsbury.

The Shrewsbury Community Theater presents Seussical, a musical based on the works of the revered children’s author Dr. Seuss.

The show isn't new to the theater. The community theatre performed the musical five years ago and Lauren Kopp, a supervisor with Shrewsbury Parks and Recreation, said it sold out each day.

Kopp told Patch a lot goes into the production.

"We've been working on this since April," she said. "And since April (the actors) have had rehearsals three days a week for three hours at a time."

Kopp said every person, adult and child, that auditioned for a role had to sing 16 bars of a song and some were are asked to do a reading from the script.

"One-hundred people auditioned and there are 68 people in the cast," Kopp said.

She also said a lot of volunteer hours make the production possible.

"We have a local artist that does all the painting for the set," Kopp said. "Our directors’ parents volunteer their time to build the set."

The theater is bringing the show back as one of the three productions it will do this year, because the script allows many opportunities for young people to get an acting chance.

"It's a fun show," Kopp said. "There are lots of roles for kids, and  it's a great family-themed event."

The musical will run July 18 thru the 21.

Those ready to get a taste of Dr Seuss and all of his greatest stories can purchase tickets for $8 at the Shrewsbury Parks Department front desk, located at 5200 Shrewsbury Ave., St. Louis, MO, 63119. Kobb said those who prefer can call up to the center and order with a credit card via phone. Call (314) 647-1003.
