Sneak Preview

This week's blog gives you a partial sneak preview of my next major road trip. Plans aren't finalized, no reservations have been made, and this is just some of what I'm thinking of doing.

I’ll leave St. Louis in early May and go to the Ozarks. Some of the cave operations in my newest book have asked me to do book signings and to lead tours at their establishments. While I am at it, might as well canoe an Ozark stream or two. The Current River is one of my favorite rivers to float.

Late May means heading out West. First, a stop in Marceline, MO and a business lunch with my publishers. After cutting across parts of Iowa and Nebraska, the trip heads back to the Black Hills. There I will be doing book signings, press interviews and other events for my 6th book. The TV station (KOTA TV) in Rapid City has already interviewed me twice. Some friends might rendezvous with me in the Black Hills.

In which case that means a week of hiking, rock climbing and camping. Next will be three weeks in Wyoming for more book signings, interviews and mountain camping. Thank goodness I have a good sleeping bag. Then I’ll spend 2-1/2 weeks traveling in Southern Idaho seeing clients, doing book signings and more camping. Next I’ll rendezvous with friends from Minnesota and we’ll convoy together to Crater Lake Oregon

There we can see the Overlook Hotel—allegedly haunted and where they filmed the movie “The Shining.” Then it’s back to Central Idaho for some wilderness hiking and mountain climbing. Then when August comes around I’ll wander over to Montana and do some ghost town hunting. Still need to do more research for the Ghosts Towns of Montana book. Hope to rent a mountain that month but still haven’t made the reservation. I better do it soon before they are all booked.

In September it’s back to the Black Hills. There is a convention for the National Cave Association in Deadwood. Conventions are fun and my two new books should do well there. Next a book signing and radio interview in Pierre, the State Capitol. Then on to Minnesota and the Twin Cities to see some friends. Then back to the Black Hills to join some Rhodes Scholars at a Mammoth dig. Then its back across Nebraska and Iowa and in early October I’ll be back in St. Louis. Boy, 4-1/2 months, can just fly by.
