A recent Patch article, pointed out a resident's comment that Affton has "great schools but nothing else."
When a comment on that article suggested that a contemporary bowling alley could be built on the site of the now-closed 7-Eleven at Gravois and Tesson Ferry, a small discussion erupted in the comments about the size of the site and if a bowling alley would fit there.
Using Sunset Lanes, at 7777 Watson Road, as a comparison it seems like the previous 7-Eleven lot might be too small, however the former Hanneke Hardware/PetCo building is a stone's throw away, and is very close in size to Sunset Lanes.
According to St. Louis County real estate information, the 7-Eleven (built 1986) site is 12,800 total square feet and the Sunset Bowling (built 1960) site totals 69,200 square feet.
Just west of the former 7-Eleven is the now closed Hanneke Hardware/PetCo, with a 68,000 square feet lot–very close in size to Sunset Lanes.
The 7-Eleven lot might be too small for a bowling alley, but it doesn't seem hard to find available lots that might work.
What do you think of a contemporary bowling alley/family fun spot in Affton? Any ideas for a location? Any other ideas?
