Breakfast and Burger to be Affton's Newest Restaurant

Owner Ismail Ilham is setting up shop for breakfast and burger patrons in the former Boodles BBQ building.

There has been a flurry of activitity in Affton in recent months on the restaurant scene. Affton Diner, 10020 Gravois Road, opened last week, Affton Breakfast and Dinner, located less than a mile away at 9416 Gravois Road, opened several months ago.

The newest Affton eatery, slated to open in March, is located next door to the Affton Diner in the former Boodles BBQ building at 10024 Gravois Road. It will be called Breakfast and Burger and the owner, Ismail Ilham, is looking forward to being part of the Affton community and welcomes the new restaurant competition.

"It's going to be a lot of fun," he said.

Ilham says Breakfast and Burger's menu will feature 25 different burgers, all 8-ounces. "There's nothing frozen, it's all fresh," he said.

As for the breakfast items, Ilham touts the restaurant's omelets, of which there are 10 different varieties.

"With our omelets," he said, "The first word out of your mouth will be 'Wow!'"

Ilham currently is the owner of Boardwalk Cafe, in Webster Groves, a restaurant that he said has so much business and no room to grow that he started to seek another venue in Affton.

"I think my menu will go well with the Affton crowd," he said.

Joan Edleson, executive director of the Affton Chamber of Commerce, also says the restaurant and the other new eateries are a welcome sight for the senior citizens and baby boomers in the area, who have some disposable income and are looking for nice places to eat.

"I'm glad to hear we're getting some new restaurants. That's great," Edleson said.

With luck, Ilham says Breakfast and Burger will be open in early March. He says there isn't a tremendous amount of rehabilitation needed for the building, which can seat around 60 people at tables and in some booths.

In addition to the omelets and burgers, Ilham said the restaurant will serve a variety of breakfast items including pancakes, french toast and skillets and, in addition to burgers, the menu will feature club sandwiches, gyros, 15 other sandwiches and salads among the non-breakfast choices.

"It's going to keep us busy," Ilham said.

Ironically, when Ilham was scouting for a location for Breakfast and Burger, one of the sites is where Affton Breakfast and Dinner ended up. The other is his new next door neighbor - Affton Diner. So, he settled on the former Boodles BBQ location instead.

And he's excited about coming into Affton to do business, repeating his mantra for the new venture, "It's going to be a lot of fun."
