Divine Pies, Country-Style Dining at the Blue Owl

Discover the Blue Owl Restaurant and Bakery in Kimmswick where R&R is defined by ordering an extra slice of pie.

Looking for a dining destination that's a fast drive from northern Jefferson or south St Louis County? Consider The Blue Owl Restaurant and Bakery.

Located just a few miles south of Arnold in Kimmswick, the Blue Owl is renowned for mountainous pies and generous servings with a menu that offers hearty fare that can satisfy guys as well as ladies who lunch.

The Blue Owl’s décor is country without the frou-frou. Wood paneling and comfortable chairs encourage one to relax, eat and enjoy.  Chalkboards in the multiple dining areas promote the day’s house specialties as Chicken ‘n Dumplings, homemade soup or meatloaf. Look to the chalkboard for such "quiche du jour" recommendations as Spinach and Artichoke, Asparagus Crab or Quiche Lorraine.

Traditional luncheon fare includes sandwiches and salads tossed with house-made dressings. Tossed Strawberry Salad drizzled with Poppy Seed dressing combines romaine, strawberries, shredded cheese and candied almonds. Add in chicken for 95 cents, which makes this salad a customer favorite. Other noteworthy salads are the Cobb and the spicy Buffalo Chicken Salad. Reubens, grilled chicken clubs and burgers make the sandwich list along with a few welcome retro standards as the open-faced roast beef served with a side of mashed potatoes.

Pies, cakes and pastries fill the bakery’s showcase where single cookie treats are had for as little as 89 cents. Whole pies and cakes are available from $22.95 to $44.95, depending on the ingredients and size. If you don’t need a whole pie or cake, just order a slice. With almost 50 different pies on the menu, it’s tough to decide what to order but top picks are the seasonal pies and the signature Levee High Apple Pie. Best buy tip: Pies and cakes are cut large enough to share.
