Great Southern Bank Moving into Rock Hill Rd. Location

The former Pioneer Bank branch will open again by the end of the year.

After being empty for several years, the bank building at 6800 Rock Hill Rd. in Affton will be opening again as a Great Southern Bank branch.

According to Affton Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Joan Edleson, the new branch will be opening by the end of the year under the management of Carrie Carrigan, who has worked at several other bank locations in the area, including the previous tenents of the 6800 building.

Edleson said Carrigan had been trying for a long time to get a bank to fill the empty location across from .

“She said, ‘I finally just had to go to my own bank and tell them we needed a branch here,’” Edleson said.

The location was originally a Commerce Bank drive-up. It was later bought by Pioneer Bank, which added an addition to the building. In 2005 National City Bank acquired Pioneer and closed the Rock Hill Road branch.

Edleson said the new owners are waiting until their purchase of the location’s land goes through before closing on the deal to buy the building.
