Green Park Automotive: Unforgettable Service Will Return Soon

An owner said he thinks it's the last service station in St. Louis to pump customers' gas.

Green Park Automotive, 2730 Union Road in Mehlville, has given its customers unforgettable service since 1971.

Resident Terry Maiden was concerned it was closing when the front of the shop was dug up to install a new canopy.

Maiden called it "one of the few places where an attendant would pump your gas and wipe your windshield! I have had my cars serviced by them for many years. They always did a first class job!"

Attendants pumps gas, clean windshields and all those other things they used to do.

Co-owner Kevin Hughes said he believes it is the only station left in St. Louis that provides service as drivers wait, an article in the St. Louis Post Dispatch states.

“If there’s another, I haven’t heard about it,” Hughes, 31, is quoted in the Post-Dispatch. “We have a lot of customers who drive miles out of their way just for us to pump their gas. The full service is our philosophy of helping our customers.”

The station was opened by Robert Jackson. Hughes is Jackson's nephew. When Jackson died three years ago, Hughes and Robert Haag bought the station.

The current work in front is to replace the canopy, which was swaying. Haag said when the new canopy goes up and the pumps are in it will be business as usual. The work should be completed this week or next. Service in the bays continues uninterrupted.
