New Hibachi Grill Supreme Buffet Opens on Watson

The new restaurant is worried about its proximity to the new Teppanyaki Grill at Mackenzie Pointe.

Th Affton and Grantwood Village area has another new choice for diners: .

The new restaurant opened Tuesday at the site of the old Ryan's Steakhouse at 8925 Watson Rd., near Grant Road. It's been completely renovated with an oriental decor that includes a fish water fountain at the main entrance and a stunning chandelier as you walk into the dining room.

It offers more than 250 items on its buffet each day, as well as a hibachi station where you can choose your own meats and vegetables and have them prepared right in front of you. The buffet foods include Chinese, Japanese, American and Mexican choices.

Hibachi also offers a fresh salad/fruit bar, a sushi station and dessert area. I'm not into sushi at all, but there was a wide variety of options available. There were peel-and-eat shrimp when I visited on Wednesday, and rib-eye steak is available on the evening buffet.

Hibachi is the second restaurant of its kind . In mid-March,Β  opened at 7289 Watson Rd. in Shrewsbury. It'sΒ less than three minutes and five miles away from Hibachi.

"We didn't know the other buffet would be opening nearby when we signed the lease," said Susan Song, Hibachi's co-owner. "It's too close. We're hoping for the best."

Song and her husband Jason own the restaurant. They moved here from New Jersey to open the new spot. They owned another restaurant there called Lucky Joy.

"My husband is a good cook," Susan said, noting that he is often behind the grill at Hibachi.

The restaurant is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. It has a party room available for reservations.

Hibachi also offers a 10-percent discount for senior citizens, military members and teachers. The phone number is 314-968-8883.
