Man's Gruesome Death at Affton Industrial Plant Ruled an Accident

St. Louis County Police will not be investigating any further Michael Muessig's death at Kerry Ingredients and Flavours.

A man’s death at a manufacturing facility in Affton last Friday morning has been ruled an accident by investigators, according to Rick Eckhard, spokesperson for the St. Louis County Police Department.

Although Eckhard was unable to disclose details about what happened on the scene, he did provide a witness account that stated Michael Muessig was pinned between two industrial forklifts at a Kerry Ingredients and Flavours factory located at 8155 New Hampshire Ave.

“Apparently another worker saw the individual was pinned between the two pieces of equipment and contacted the police,” Eckhard said. Muessig was transported to St. John’s Mercy Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

“This is not really a police investigation since there was no apparent criminal action,” Eckhard said.

The Beloit, WI-based Kerry Ingredients and Flavours issued a statement on Friday about the incident but did not comment further.
