County Councilman: Thrift Store Not "Good Fit" for Affton

Steve Stenger opposes the relocation of a Value Village thrift store from Shrewsbury to the former Hanneke Hardware, St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

St. Louis County Councilman Steve Stenger, who opposes the relocation of a thrift store from Shrewsbury to Affton, says he wants what's best for his hometown, according to a recent St. Louis Post-Dispatch article.

The owner of the Value Village thrift store in Kenrick Plaza is trying to have the store moved to the former Hanneke Hardware, 10042 Gravois Rd., Post-Dispatch reports. (The Shrewsbury Board of Aldermen  recently approved a Walmart Supercenter in Kenrick Plaza.)

"Affton is poised to join other inner-ring suburbs like Brentwood, Maplewood and Richmond Heights...,” he told St. Louis Post-Dispatch, adding he doesn't feel the resale shop is a "good fit for the area."

While thrift and resale stores are more popular and plentiful than ever, they aren't everyone's cup of tea. The City of Crestwood also recently caught some heat from a resident who believes they should focus on attracting new retailers instead of considering additional resale spaces.
