A Season to Remember

The Affton Cougars soccer team was defeated 1-0 in overtime by Luthern South in Thursday night's District championship game.

As I walked off the soccer field, a slight grin slid across my face. Sure we'd just lost to Luthern South in what may have been the best game this year in High school Soccer. Sure, we were losing seniors who played their hearts out to get us to the championship round of districts, but we knew that as we walked off the field, holding our heads high, that we had acheived something that a true team can only accomplish. When soccer workouts started, we were all just a bunch of friends from school, but as we walked off of Luthern South's field Thursday night, we walked as brothers. Some of us cried, some of us were silent, some of us didn't even show up at school the next day, but it didn't matter, we knew that we had become a team and that next year would be our year for glory, but for now, we're all just going to enjoy the rest of this year and start getting ready for soccer next year.
