Christmas With the Elks

The Christmas With The Elks event helped a record-high 89 families this holiday season by giving out gift baskets filled with presents, pastries, produce, and perishables.

For the past 25 years The Affton Elks lodge #2635 has been doing a Christmas drive to help spread some jolly around this time of year.  The members of the Elks lodge along with the help of the Affton and Bayless school districts and even the regular bingo crowd up at the lodge were able to bring in food and presents for eighty-nine families. The St. Louis Bread Co. and the Schnucks bakery also pitched in and donated some pastries and cakes for the families. At approximately 8 AM on Saturday the 15th, families from all over the Affton-Shrewsbury area began to pour into the Elks lodge with their children and spouses as The Elks, and even myself, helped gather presents and food and load them into the families’ cars.

As families came and went, there were hugs, thanks, and even some tears shed on the scene. At the end of the event, I felt really good knowing that I’d helped make some families’ Christmas brighter. Maybe it’s a lesson we can all learn from the Christmas spirit itself.  What goes around comes around, and that you should help whenever you see possible to.
