Affton Class Ring Lost and Found...37 years Later.

A friend's class ring is found and traced back to her after 37 years and hundreds of miles.

A close friend from emailed me last month regarding her 1974 class ring. She had lost it just 6 months after starting at Mizzou in 1974, but after receiving a phone call from Mr. Beermann at Affton, it appeared the ring was found...37 years later!

Caryl Mengersen Ernest and I grew up houses from each other in a brand new 1950s/1960s subdivision off of Langley Road. We would ride our bikes to the Diary Queen on Gravois and Mackenzie, hang out at the Chuck-A-Burger, and often have her father, Mr. Mengersen the Principal at Reavis Elementary and later at Mesnier Elementary, drop us off at school in the morning. After graduation, she went to Mizzou and I went to Fontbonne, but our friendship remained. When she emailed me about her ring being found, we decided to make a day of it; lunch, a drive through the old neighborhood, and a stop by our old school.

How did the ring find its way back to Caryl? Last time Caryl saw the ring, she was in the kitchen of the Gamma Phi house at Mizzou. She took it off to do some cooking and it never made it back on her hand. Turns out another Mizzou student and fellow Gamma Phi, Lisa Davis Ovaitt, found it, but could not locate the owner. Years later, she found it again in an old jewelry box and decided to finally solve the mystery. Lisa knew the owner went to Affton High School, graduated in 1974, and had the initials CSM. Lisa contacted the School District, and with Mr. Beermann’s help, found the mysterious CSM of ’74. Following a little more detective work by Mr. Beermann, Caryl received a letter from him saying her lost high school ring was found.

I hadn’t been to the high school in several years, but it still looked as good as it did 37 years ago! In fact, it looks even better! With all the nostalgia, I've attached a few pictures from our senior yearbook. Go Cougars!
