Cor Jesu Students and Faculty Donate Hair to Help Children with Hairloss

For 25 Cor Jesu students, as well as the three Spanish teachers and one current mom, cutting their hair for Children with Hairloss was more important than keeping it.

For teenage girls, their hair is one of their most important and treasured features. But for 25 Cor Jesu students, as well as the three Spanish teachers and one current mom, they were willing to forgo their locks for children at the third annual CJ Haircuts for Love event on May 2.

“Last year, when I saw a lot of my friends cut their hair on the spur of the moment,” said sophomore Sarah Ferretti, “I wanted to give, too, but I couldn’t because my hair was too short. So, I made a promise to myself that I would grow my hair out for the first time since about second or third grade to donate for this year. I never thought I would have the determination and patience to wait to cut my hair. This was a big milestone for me for two reasons: it was the first time I had donated my hair to Children with Hairloss, and it was the first time someone other than my grandma, who used to be a professional beautician, had cut my hair. It was so cool to be part of the experience that I had seen so many girls experience. I definitely plan to do it again!”

The donated hair was given to the organization, Children with Hairloss, whose mission is to empower children to become whole again by making wigs available to those who may be financially challenged and might otherwise not have a means of obtaining the hair they want and need.

Spearheading the event were Cor Jesu students in the IMPEL Club (Individuals Motivated by Prayer and Energized by the Lord), Rena Fernan ’12 and Christina Sinak ’13. A special thank you to stylists from Za Za Zsu Salon in Grasso Plaza and Missy Alessi, who donated their time to help the cause.
