Check out the 10 most read stories on Missouri Patch sites for the month of November.

Given the month, you'd think our most popular story would involve Black Friday or a presidential election. Nope. Not when more than a half a billion dollars is at stake.

St. Louis readers were flocking to our winning Powerball numbers story on Clayton-Richmond Heights Patch. When it was all said and done, the winning numbers were 5, 16, 22, 23, 29 with the Powerball number of 6.

A Florissant man was in critical condition after he fought with a Hazelwood man during a washer tournament at Pirate’s Cove Bar & Grill. Randy Feger, a father-of-four who lives in Florissant, later died from the injuries he incurred in the accident.

Among the most newsy things that happened in November? The election. 

And St. Louis Patch sites had our readers covered like no other news outlet around. But it was this roundup of election results from St. Charles Patch that had the most eyeballs on it. 

5. Sen. Claire McCaskill Visits With Arnold Veterans in Campaign Stop

This article actually published on the last day of October, but gained serious traction in November. 

Sen. Claire McCaskill made her rounds in Arnold and South County days before the election.

Her last campaign stop of the day included a visit to the VFW Post 2593 in Arnold where she personally thanked the veterans for their service. She told Arnold Patch Jefferson County is an important county in the race for U.S. Senate.

6. Online Petition Seeks Missouri Secession after 2012 Presidential Election 

Elections bring winners and losers. On the largest scale, Barack Obama defeated Mitt Romney, which left plenty of dissappointed Missouri Republicans. 

Those disappointed in the Show-Me State started a petition to leave the union and create a new government. That was according to reports around the state and the country, where at least 30 other states had similar petition drives crop up.

Chesterfield Patch asked readers what they thought of the whole thing. More than 100 readers weighed in on the matter.

A Brentwood paramedic used a city ambulance to go watch his daughter play volleyball at St. Mary Magdalen, alderman and Public Safety Committee member Anthony Harper said.

The Public Safety Committee discussed firefighters and police officers using city vehicles to go to sporting events, QuikTrip, a drive-through or home, as a result of that use of a city vehicle, at their meeting on Thursday.

Human Resources Manager Julie Echols said when the committee determines what qualifies as an approved city event, then a policy can be written. She said it’s covered in the handbook now, but it’s vague.

A construction worker struck another man with a paving tool, gashing his chest and narrowly missing his pacemaker, police said.

Sunset Hills Police said that Brian Kitson, 30, and the second coworker argued throughout the day Oct. 4 at a construction site in Sunset Hills. Kitson then swung the sharp end of an asphalt lute, a tool used to spread hot asphalt, at the man, striking him in the chest, according to the police report.

The wounded man first was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Festus and then was transferred by ambulance to St. Louis University Hospital. Physicians told police the wound was one centimeter by one centimeter, and did not penetrate the chest or harm any internal organs.

Black Friday wasn't the only day of deals in November. Veterans Day, celebrated Nov. 11, offered plenty of freebies to veterans who have bravely and proudly served our country.
