Affton Woman Wins $50,000 in Lotto

Christine Slaughter bought the scratch-off ticket at the 7-Eleven at Heege and Mackenzie roads.

Christine Slaughter, a U.S. Army reservist and Affton resident, was on her way home from work at the Missouri Department of Mental Health in St. Louis when she decided to stop at 7-Eleven at 8000 McKenzie Rd. There, she bought a Missouri Lottery Scratchers "Bedazzled" ticket, and promptly won $50,000.

A Missouri Lottery press release said the first-time lottery winner was departing for a conference in Salt Lake City the following morning, so she immediately drove home to show the winning ticket to her “other half” and stow it in a safe place.

“I actually haven’t even been home yet,” Slaughter said when interviewed at the lottery office, adding that when she returned from the conference, she and her husband went straight from the airport to the St. Louis lottery office to claim the prize.

In the interview, Slaughter said she had always hoped she’d win a lottery prize, but she was shocked when her dream came true.

The prize, she said in the interview, will provide “financial freedom.” She intends to pay off the mortgage on her house and her credit cards.

“It’s making a big difference in our lives,” she said. “We'll have money now. It's not paycheck to paycheck."

Slaughter also plans on taking a beach vacation to either Florida or North Carolina.

Bedazzled” is a $3 game that began Aug. 13. The game features six top prizes of $50,000.
