Grant Historic Site to Unveil Historic Cannons

The two cannons of the Civil War era go on display Saturday.

The will unveil a pair of Civil War-era cannons in a ceremony at 2 p.m. Saturday.

A park press release stated the two 24-pounder seige and garrison howitzer cannons have belonged to the Busch family since the early 1900s and will be on loan to the park from Andrew Busch for display during the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

While similar to many on display at battlefield sites throughout the country, these cannons are are unique in that they are sequentially numbered.

The unveiling ceremony will feature a keynote address by St. Louis County Chief Executive Charlie Dooley. Costumed park rangers will offer tours of the White Haven home and demonstrate skills needed by Civil War soldiers. There will also be a junior ranger program running that day.

Children age 16 and younger who attend the ceremony will get a 150th Civil War anniversary magnet.
