Indoor Events For a Rainy Weekend: Writing, Eating, Selling

It might rain this weekend, but that shouldn't stop you from getting out there and enjoying your weekend. Here are four good indoor events to keep you busy—and one outdoor activity if the sun shows.


When/Where: 8 a.m. Saturday, , 5200 Shrewsbury Ave.
Why Go:
Don’t horde it, sell it! Get that junk out of your life—you will save yourself light and space and time. Rent a table from the Shrewsbury Parks and Recreation department and sell your clutter. Or, if you find yourself in need of possessions, go hunt for bargains.
Cost: Free to attend: $15 per table for Shrewsbury residents, $20 per table for nonresidents


When/Where: 3 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Oakville High School, 5557 Milburn Rd
Why Go: You know all those local restaurants you’ve been meaning to try? Hit them all in one afternoon. Orlando's, Malone's, Gingham's, Culvers, Casa Gallardo, Romano's Macaroni Grill and McArthur's Bakery will offer samples of their delicious specialties. There will also be a student art contest and music by school bands.
Cost: $10 for adults, $5 for children (10 and under), free for ages 4 and under

When/Where: All day Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Sheraton Westport, 900 Westport Plz.
Why Go: Bring your manuscript—we know you have one—and pitch it to top book agents. Take classes, attend panels and workshops, and generally mingle with other wordy types at this once a year conference.

When/Where: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Laumeier Sculpture Park, 12580 Rott Rd.
Why Go: Ponder the role of modern man and modern day heroes with this exhibition. Hand-knit superhero costumes, photographs and embroidered comic book covers are on display in the esteemed parks indoor gallery.

Why Go: An event planned for Affton’s Bosnian families gets the kids away from Saturday morning cartoons to help them work on their English.
