Know Your Parks: Ohlendorf
This summer, Patch is bringing you the great outdoors with a closer look at the parks of South County.
Ohlendorf County Park is a good old fashioned neighborhood park. Nestled in the neighborhoods at the intersection of Spring and Union, the park provides a great place for families to play.
According to the St. Louis County Parks website, the 10 acre park opened as a 4.5 acre tract named Spring Drive Parksite in the 1960s, but was expanded when orthodontic manufacturer, Howard Ohlendorf, funded the purchase of additional land.
The St. Louis County Parks website also states that Ohlendorf gave generously to the parks system, and is responsible for the St. Louis Carousel in Faust Park, as well as the fountains in Tilles, Queeny, and Carondolet Parks.

It was his contribution to the park at 4444 Spring Dr, though, that got the park renamed after him.
Today, the park features play equipment, a picnic pavilion, a baseball field, restrooms, a large play field and barbecue equipment, making it a great place to spend time outside.
