Know Your Parks: Wedding and Ducks in Bohrer Park

This summer Patch is bringing you the great outdoors with a closer look at the parks of South County.

Located at 5705 South Lindbergh, Bohrer is a great park for both relaxing and playing. This 16 acre park has one main pavilion next to a large pond. There are also two picnic sites with tables and a barbecue pit.

The park has a playground, tennis courts, volleyball poles, horseshoe pits, baseball diamonds, and a large field.

According to the St. Louis County Parks website, Bohrer Park was built during the late 50s and early 60s using funds from a bond issue as well as money from the sale of a portion of Grandview County Park to the Missouri State Highway Department during the development of I-270 at Gravois Road.

The St. Louis County Parks website also states that the park was named for District 6 County Councilman George E. Bohrer. Bohrer was an army corporal in World War II, and served as a county councilman from 1956 to 1960, when he died in the middle of a council meeting.

Today, Bohrer Park is a center of community activity, and the St. Louis County Parks bulletin board in Bohrer Park features information on park-centric events, like Trail Watch, the Jefferson Barracks Concert Series, the Junior Ranger program and community organized hikes and walks.
