Patch Columnist Scores Big With Missouri Professional Communicators

Suzanne Corbett wins an armload of awards for her food, travel and business writing. She contributes "Bites Nearby" for Patch.

Suzanne Corbett, who writes food-related columns for Patch, was the top award winner in the annual Communications Contest of the Missouri Professional Communicators (MPC).

Corbett, of South County, received either first or second place awards in nine categories, including Food, Travel, Reviews, Business Spotlights, Features, Personality Profiles, Columns, Arts & Entertainment and Writing for the Web. Her entries included material published by PrimeLife Circuit Magazine, West Newsmagazine, AAA Midwest Traveler and Patch.com.

At Affton-Shrewsbury Patch, Corbett takes a brief look at local South County restaurants in a that appears on several Patch websites. She also writes another food column for Fenton-High Ridge Patch called .

All of Corbett's first place entries have been forwarded to the competition of the National Federation of Press Women, of which the MPC is an affiliate. Those who earn top rankings on the national level will be invited to receive their honors at the national conference Sept. 8 and 10 in Council Bluffs, IA, and Omaha, NB.

Corbett is no stranger to national recognition, having won a gold and bronze award earlier this year from the North American Travel Journalists Association in the historical and culinary travel writing categories.

A long-time food and travel writer in St. Louis, Corbett is a food historian, contributing to several books and writing one of her own, "Pushcarts to Stalls: A Soulard Market History Cookbook."

"The recipes in the book would be considered retro today, but it's the food I grew up with," Corbett said. "It goes back to a farm-to-table mentality that people are returning to."
