Is graffiti an appropriate memorial?

If you drive along Des Peres Parkway near Gravois Road, you may have seen a bright yellow work of spray paint on the far side of the river. "RIP Tyler / 4 ever in our hearts" the tag says.

The graffiti commemorates baby Tyler Dasher, whose murder shocked the Affton community last November.

One-year-old Dasher was along River Des Peres Parkway, in sight of the graffiti, after being reported missing by his mother Shelby Dasher, 20, of Affton. Police say the mother confessed to killing her son, and she has now .

Both friends and strangers mourned Tyler Dasher's death, piling stuffed animals and other tributes under a tree near where he was found and . A small memorial cross remains at the tree.

Dasher's grandmother also recently reported that someone on the boy's headstone, perhaps with heartfelt intentions.
