Roller Derby, Trivia and New Art

Whether you're rolling with family, friends or a sweetheart this weekend, we've got you covered.

It's that time of week again—time to start thinking about what to do with yourself this weekend. Whether you're looking for something fun to do with the family, want to take a sibling out for some quality bonding time, or you're just looking for a cheap but awesome date, we've got you covered.


  • Where/When:
    Tesson Ferry Library, 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12
    Why Go: It's a free event, and the kiddos will get to learn about another culture and play with African instruments like the marimba, shakers and hand drum. Plus, you probably have library books to return anyway.
    Pricing: Free

  • Where/When: Affton Elks Lodge, 6330 Heege Rd.; 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12
    Why Go: The Ozark Trail Association is a non-profit that helps maintain the natural beauty of the Ozark Trail. You'll have a great time, while also doing your good deed for the week. Besides, with all the free refreshments and prizes going around, you'll be getting your money's worth anyway.
    Pricing: $20 per person

  • Where/When:
    All-American Sports Mall, 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12
    Why Go: You can go see a high school basketball game any old day. is fast-paced, hardcore and a lot of fun to watch. If you have never been to one in person before (watching Whip It with your girlfriend doesn't count), no excuses.
    Pricing: $15 at the door, $12 at the door if you buy by Friday. Kids 10 and under get in for free.
  • Roller Skating at
    Where/When:
    Rollercade Rollerskating Rink, open skate sessions on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2 - 4 p.m. or 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. (open all weekend, see website for other open skate times)
    Why Go: Because you went to see roller derby last night and now you're dying to try it yourself. Please, no knocking down the other kids until you join a league.
    Pricing: $5.50 admission, roller skate rental free. Cash only.
  • New Jessica Stockholder Exhibit at
    Where: 12580 Rott Road, near 270 and 44
    When:
    Reception and gallery talk 5 - 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12. Exhibit open through May 29, 2011. Museum hours are Tue - Fri, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sat - Sun, noon - 5 p.m.
    Why Go: Fine art is worth a bit of a drive, especially if you get the chance to meet the sculptor. Jessica Stockholder's new exhibit is called "Grab grassy this moment your l's" and features 11 quirky, playful sculptures.
    Pricing: Free
