Still Some Homes Without Power

Only about 300 homes are still lacking power, down from nearly 5,000 last night.

Last night's brief summer storm broke the heat wave Affton has been suffering under, but it also brought a suffering of its own: power outages.

In the 63123, 63119 and 63128 area codes covering Affton, Shrewsbury, Marlborough, Rock Hill and more, . This morning, only about 340 homes still didn't have power.

Paul Hamtil, who lives near the intersection of Heege Road and Mackenzie Road, tweeted Affton-Shrewsbury Patch at @AfftonPatch to say there were "two broken power poles and a tree down over wires on Mathilda (Avenue.)"

Workers said the power outage in that neighborhood could last until noon today, Hamtil said.
