Traffic Ahead: Chips, Cell Phones: Not While Driving

Here's a look at this week's Traffic Troublemakers and the latest road closures and construction projects in the area.

What's even more maddening than road closures and construction that slow you down? Inconsiderate, irresponsible drivers that make you just shake your head in disbelief. Each week on Patch, we'll highlight some of these Traffic Troublemakers, plus give you a look at what to expect on the roads courtesy of the Missouri Department of Transportation.

From Patch Local Editor Candace Jarrett: This "Honk Honk" goes out to a special lady on I-270 west that cut across four lanes Wednesday and almost hit me in her Hyundai Genesis while laughing on the cell phone. Thanks.

Patch friend Ruth Weiler, of Maplewood, reports that in her daily morning commute, merging onto west-bound I-64 from Big Bend Boulevard, she came upon a pokey commuter eating potato chips.

Another Patch Local Editor, Jean Whitney has a doosey of a tale about driving west on Olive late one night, with a headlight out, so she drove with her brights, so as not to be stopped. She came up behind a slow driving SUV. Let the good times begin…in Jean’s words:

“The SUV slows up, changes lanes, and gets behind me, and turns on SUV Jerk brights. Tailgates me. Flashes Jerk brights on and off. Honks at me. Mind you, there appears to be no one else on the road between say, Fee Fee and Hwy 40.

“So, I decide to slow down and bore him to death. Finally the jerk in the SUV changes lanes and speeds off, and away. Phew.

“BUT, a mile or so later I come up to my nice, familiar green-arrow-turn traffic light (to turn and go home.) There's the jerk SUV, sitting at the red light to go straight through. As I turn, the jerk lays on the horn. Pathetic.”
