Screening of award-winning documentary on poverty to raise funds for Operation Food Search

On Monday, April 28th, Operation Food Search (OFS) will offer an opportunity for film lovers and the socially conscious to satisfy their appetites on all levels by hosting a benefit screening of the award-winning documentary What Matters? at Schlafly Bottleworks in Maplewood. Proceeds from the event will benefit persons who struggle with hunger and food insecurity in the St. Louis region.

The film focuses attention on the global issue of extreme poverty as 3 friends (two idealistic activists and one skeptic) attempt to live on $1.25 a day, the world’s standard for extreme poverty, as they journey across 3 continents. Their adventure takes an unexpected turn when two of them survive a deadly plane crash in Africa and all must fight to finish what they started to bring attention to an issue of global significance – extreme poverty. Filmmaker and subject Dan Parris will conduct a Q&A after the film to discuss the issues raised in the film.

Advance ticket reservations for this all-ages screening of What Matters? are $10 and available now through April 27 at www.OperationFoodSearch.org. All reservations will be held at the door. Tickets will also be available on April 28 when the doors open at 6:30 p.m. The film begins at 7:00p.m., followed by a post-film discussion with Parris. All proceeds from the ticket sales will directly benefit Operation Food Search.  Operation Food Search will have its blue collection barrels at the event for guests to make donations of non-perishable food items. Anyone donating food items will be entered into a raffle for a gift certificate.
