The two candidates for St. Louis County Assessor will present their platforms and answer voters’ questions at a public forum at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 19th at Bayless High School Auditorium, 4530 Weber Rd.  This free event is sponsored by the Affton and Lemay Chambers of Commerce.  Reservations are not required.

In November voters approved a ballot initiative requiring that the County Assessor be an elected position.  Previously the County Assessor has been a staff position of St. Louis County Government.  The candidates, facing off in this first-ever election, are realtor L. K. “Chip” Wood (R) and state representative Jake Zimmerman (D).

The Assessment Division of the Department of Revenue classifies and assesses all real and personal property in St. Louis County.  The assessed value is then applied to the tax rates established by the taxing districts to determine the amount of tax levied against a property.
