Affton Lawn Equipment Owner's Top Tip to Keep Mower Tip Top

A man who should know has advice on how to keep your lawn mower out of his repair shop.

Ed Ponder is a son of Adrian Ponder, who founded Affton Lawn Equipment 60 years ago. It's at 9875 Gravois Road.

“The best thing they can do is keep their fuel fresh,” Ponder said. “Don’t purchase a lot of fuel. Gasoline goes stale from sitting. All the manufacturers recommend 30 days or less gas supply.”

The danger is that your lawn mower won’t start or will run poorly because stale fuel will deteriorate the carburetor and fuel lines. Then you run the danger of paying the going rate of $80 an hour for Ponder’s shop to fix your mower.

Ponder said the rainy spring has been good for business.

“Keep it raining,” he said.
