Trivia Night Turns Non-Profits Upside Down

Food Pantry Trivia Night questions spark creative thought.

How much thought do you give to nationally-known non-profits?  Would you be able to identify them if you were given slightly-off-perspective clues?

Try this one:  You might think this organization organizes parades for small coins.

If you guessed "March of Dimes," you are correct!

Last Saturday night, trivia buffs wrestled with questions just like this at the 2nd Annual Affton Christian Food Pantry Trivia Night.  The trivia night is one of three fundraisers the Affton Christian Food Pantry does each year, using the proceeds to provide food for families in need in the 63123 and surrounding zip codes.

This year's trivia night was hosted by Seven Holy Founders, one of 12 churches which make up this ecumenical organization.  Board Member, Gene Murphy, arranged for use of their parish hall for the fundraiser.  Vice President, Mark Kamil headed up the Trivia Night Team, which relied heavily on volunteers to organize and run the evening.

The clever questions - and there were 10 rounds of very clever questions, many with a sneaky food connection - were the brainchild of Reverend Jason Herbig, Associate Pastor of Rooftop Community Church, another of the 12 member churches.

The evening netted just over $3,400, which will be used to meet the growing need for food assistance in Affton.  So far this year, the ACFP is seeing 29% more clients than last year, even as donations to the pantry have decreased.

The ACFP is already planning next year's trivia night... but here's one more question to keep you sharp until then:

You might think this organization is run by genies who throw coins into fountains.

Did you guess, "Make a Wish?"
