Fuel Up To Play 60 Is Going Strong at Rogers Middle School!

We are working hard to help students make healthy choices and exercise 60 minutes per day.

Many wonderful events have occurred this year with our Fuel Up to Play 60 program. We won the Back to Football Friday contest and the NFL recognized us as a “Super School.” We received a visit from the NFL, James and Joe Laurinaitis, the Rams Cheerleaders and Rampage along with representatives from the local and Midwest Dairy Council. Two of our students participated in a photo shoot at the Rams complex with Chris Long. Our walking path is complete and we use it daily (we welcome the community to do so as well).

Fuel Up to Play 60 is still going strong at Rogers Middle School. We continue to participate in FUTP activities, including both the healthy and active plays, and are grateful for the funds that we received from the Dairy Council. We were able to sponsor a yoga class for students and continue with our after school Wii club.  Farmer Paul will be coming to Rogers to speak with 6th graders about “seed to sow”, explaining how to grow vegetables and hopefully to energize the students enough for them to want to start their own garden next year. Eighth grade students were taught by SLU graduate dieticians how to make healthy after school snacks, including smoothies.

This year we are “taste testing” monthly, trying new cheeses, fruits and veggies, and we celebrated the Chinese New Year with fortune cookies. On Trivia Tuesdays students have an opportunity to win prizes for answering nutrition trivia questions correctly at lunch. Fridays are “fitness Fridays” and we exercise during homeroom and at lunch. Grab-n-go breakfast continues to be a huge success and more students are eating breakfast than ever before. We will celebrate Nutrition Month in March with our “Milk Mustache Booth” and students will also have an opportunity to win a prize with their homeroom by tracking their dairy consumption.
