September 11

September 11 is a sad day but also my birthday!

Good Morning,

Today is September 11 and the news is full of remembraces for the tragedy of 9/11.  Like many others, revisiting this makes me close to tears for the families and friends who lost loved ones, so many loved ones.  But for me and I am sure for others, this day is a double edged sword because it is also my birthday!  I love birthdays. I love the well wishes on Facebook, all the cards, the cake that my daughter will bake for me, another excuse to see my grandkids, not that I need one, and the free offers from all the stores to help me celebrate. Yes, I love birthdays!

What I think about the most is how life has changed from when I was a teenager and now when my two youngest are teenagers. In my day, we hit the neighborhood on bikes in the morning and didnt return until the street lights came one. Someones Mom also had lunch for us, our mothers talked to each other, and we felt safe. We rode to the park, looked for adventure, visited our friends homes and hoped we could find 10 cents to get an ice cream cone before we returned home.  We walked down alleys, went to help the lady across the street, and never gave a worry to whether we were safe.

Today is so different. I worry about my teenagers hanging around in the neighborhood park because there are kids smoking, goodness knows what, there. Walking alone anywhere is not a good idea, so they always travel in pairs. Going inside some friends house is forbidden unless I have already been there and know the parent. Yes, today is different for my teenagers. But instead of my usually worry I will spend my day happy for my birthday and in prayer for the thousands who lost everything 11 years ago.  God Bless Us!
