Man Dies in South County House Fire

The home is off Tesson Ferry Road south of Affton.

A man died in a South County house fire near Affton early Tuesday morning, the St. Louis Post Dispatch reports.

Terry Gapsch, 38, was pronounced dead after firefighters pulled him from the home at 10005 St. Simon Court. Maci Gapsch, 11, was rescued from the fire and is in critical condition at a hospital.

Georgetta Gapsch, 79, was reported to be in critical condition in a hospital.

This article contains a correction. It previously stated that Georgetta Gapsch died in the fire. She survived.

St. Louis County Police Officer Rick Eckhard said it appears the fire started in the basement. There is no obvious signs of foul play, though the cause of the fire hasn’t been determined.
