Affton Man Shatters Vodka Bottle Over Another Man's Head, Police Say

The victim spent three hours in surgery repairing damage to his jugular vein, according to a St. Louis County Police report.

A man shattered a vodka bottle over another man’s head in front of a home in the 5200 block of Waldo Avenue in Affton, police said.

St. Louis County Police said John E. Michael Jr., 44, of the 5200 block of Waldo, hit and cut the man in attempt to kill or cause serious injury to the man on June 12.

The man told police he lost consciousness for a short time. He had cuts on his face and neck, and spent three hours in surgery to repair damage to his jugular vein, according to a police report. The man also reported scarring.

Michael was charged Sept. 19 with first-degree assault in St. Louis County Circuit Court.

Michael was scheduled to appear in court for a bond reduction hearing Oct. 15. He is being held in St. Louis County jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
